The Metrostars have signed their third player in the space of one week.
In a dramatic last minute deal, skillful winger Mohammad was signed with only 10 minutes to go before kickoff. The Metrostars' latest addition will take the number 17 shirt and celebrated his transfer by scoring to mark an impressive debut.
The founding members (some pictured above) announced at a press conference today that the Metrostars have bolstered their front line with the signings of Muhammad and Haz aka Boi. Both players have had previous stints with the club and should give the Belait-based team more options in attack.
Muhammad will take the number 32 shirt while Haz will take number 16. Shirt sales are expected to triple due to these signings (3 times zero is still zero).
The World Cup record goalscorer had been linked with Manchester City, but manager Mark Hughes has since rejected any chance of a deal going through.
Ronaldo was released by AC Milan last season and is currently available on a free transfer. This put the ex-FIFA Footballer of the Year within the Metrostars' price range and upon City's refusal, they swooped in to try and sign him.
However, the Brazilian's agent today said that all negotiations with the Metrosexual Superstars had ceased.
The Metrostars came out with this statement; "Unfortunately, the Ronaldo deal has fallen through because of doubts about his fatness... i mean fitness...."
The Metrostars' new kit was launched today in Niketown, London, Batu Satu. Thanks to child labour and exploited immigrants, the kit is priced at an affordable $29. The new design sees a departure from the traditional blue and white colours, although these are still present in the logo. Despite these changes, the new kit is said to be so stunning that some of the workers at Nike were actually blinded by its beauty.
Players Deddy and Hadi were there at the Nike megastore to meet fans and sign shirts. Strangely, no fans showed up.
One of the founding members of Major League Soccer, the team was originally known as the New York/New Jersey MetroStars through 1997. From the 1998 season until right before the 2006 season, the team was known simply as the MetroStars. In March 2006, the company Red Bull bought the club and the name was changed to New York Red Bulls.
Some famous names who have been with the Americans are World Cup winner Lothar Matthaus, current Portugal manager Carlos Queiros and retired US soccer captain Claudio Reyna who also captained the club side. Current star of the Red Bulls is Argentinian Juan Pablo Angel, who has scored 54 goals in 71 matches.
Despite this, the team still have never won any domestic trophy. Kinda like us, huh?
The Metrostars continued their spending spree by at long last securing their new number 1. Deddy (pictured left) becomes the Metrostars' latest signing and solves their longstanding problem between the goalposts. Deddy was introduced today at a press conference with an Indonesian man standing in the background.
The club are understood to be scouting several new players and are expected to be holding trials sometime next month.
In a shocking turn of events, Nike has hijacked rivals Adidas' sponsorship deal with the Metrostars. The new design for the 2008/2009 kit is reportedly already in production and the kits should be available in stores Tuesday next week. When asked for reasons for the change, the football club's spokesman replied with "Nada stock".
Just days after resigning from his post as Newcastle manager, Kevin Keegan has already been linked to one of the biggest jobs in world futsal; managing the Metrosexual Superstars.
The ex-Liverpool legend was seen at Brunei Airport which fuels suspicion of Keegan taking the Metrostars hotseat. It is possible however, that the man at the airport could have been just some random white guy.
Keegan left Tyneside because of money problems but this would not be an issue at Mumong because quite simply, the Metrostars have no money.
The club is preparing to welcome back a familiar face. Yasir, who has been playing in England the last four years, is currently undergoing a medical having agreed terms for a return to Mumong. The transfer fee to BruNotts is believed to be B$3.27, making him the club's record signing. The Metrostars narrowly beat Chelsea to his signature after the London club withdrew upon learning of his price tag.
Also, Ismail, currently on-loan to Griffith in Australia, is due to return in March 2009. Surely more signings will come before the close of the transfer window. Especially if rumours of a takeover by the Abu Dhabi group prove to be true.
Speculation from British Tabloids today suggest that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is once again looking abroad to poach young talent. Rumours suggest that the Frenchman attempted a deadline day swoop for the Metrostars' lifelong Arsenal fan, Lee Yuan Soon.
"Playing for Arsenal is my dream" Soon, nicknamed 'Player', has said in the past.
When asked about the possibility of a transfer, Arsene Wenger had this to say:
"Who ze f*** is Lee Yuan Soon?"
In your dreams, Player.
